Our parrots vocalize in a variety of creative and unique ways. From mimicking cell phone ringers to repeating private and personal conversations, to deafening screams. But what about the vocalizations your parrot makes when they feel safe, happy and content? Let’s explore the vocalizations parrots make that we can describe as their ‘comfort sounds’.
Because of what I learned from my male Blue and Gold macaw Corby, I began wondering about comfort sounds other parrots make. The complete story of what I learned from Corby is in my article in the December, 2021, issue of Parrots magazine.

I’ve discovered that Quaker parrots can purr, and that Eclectus repeat a humming-like sound, “mmmmmMMM”, where the tone rises in pitch at the end. And from those who care for African Greys, I’ve been told that their comfort sounds can be a combination of all their favorite sounds to mimic that can include clicking, popping, whirring, a phone ringing or door chimes.

What comfort sound does your parrot make?
Now that I’m aware of this subtle avian communication I’d love to learn more about what type of comfort sounds your parrots make. You can send me a mini video that captures these parrot comfort sounds. In exchange for this I’ll email you a FREE PDF of my December article, ‘Discovering your bird’s ‘comfort sounds’.
